Ingredients

  • 1 lb (450g) - White fish fillets, such as cod or tilapia
  • 1 cup (100g) - Broccoli florets
  • 1 cup (100g) - Carrot slices
  • 1 cup (100g) - Bell peppers (red, yellow, or green)
  • 1 cup (185g) - Quinoa
  • Olive oil (for human portions)
  • Fresh parsley or dill for garnish (for human portions)
  • Lemon wedges (for human portions)
  • For humans: Herbs and spices such as dill, parsley, or a squeeze of lemon
  • Directions

    1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
    2. Slice the bell peppers.
    3. Rinse the quinoa under cold water.
    4. In a small pot, bring 2 cups of water to a boil, add the quinoa, reduce heat, cover, and simmer for about 15 minutes or until all water is absorbed. Set aside.
    5. Place the fish fillets on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Drizzle a little olive oil and add lemons and herbs for the human portions.
    6. Steam the broccoli, carrots, and bell peppers until just tender.
    7. Bake the fish for about 15-20 minutes, or until it flakes easily with a fork.
    8. Fluff the cooked quinoa with a fork and mix with the steamed vegetables.
    9. Serve the fish on top of the quinoa and vegetable mix.
    10. For the dog's and cat's portions, serve the fish and veggies plain, without any added oil, herbs, or lemon.
    11. For human servings, enhance with fresh parsley or dill, additional drizzle of olive oil, and a squeeze of lemon. Offer lemon wedges on the side.

Cooking tips for pets and humans:

Avoid harmful ingredients: Avoid avocado and anything containing caffeine or alcohol as these can be harmful to your pets. Onions, garlic, chocolate, grapes and raisins as well as certain nuts can be deadly to dogs or cats.

Seasoning: Keep dishes bland for pets. Dogs and cats can be very sensitive to salt and spices, which can cause gastrointestinal upset. It’s best to remove a portion for your dog or cat before adding any seasonings for your own servings.

Consult your vet: New foods should always be checked with a veterinary doctor before being fed to dogs or cats. This is important because it ensures safety and proper measurements, especially considering that different animals have varying nutritional needs based on health condition, age and size.
